On this week’s edition of Give An Ovation, Carl Orsbourn and Meredith Sandland join us for another forward thinking and innovative episode. With the publication of their second book in the Delivering The Digital Restaurant series, The Path to Digital Maturity, Carl and Meredith impress the importance of taking your tech seriously. From interface to optimization, their expertise within the digital space is far reaching!

Here are a few highlights from this episode:

Why write an additional Delivering the Digital Restaurant book?

“Writing this book initially began as a bonus chapter. The first book was very much a ‘why should you take digitization seriously’. What it didn’t necessarily do is focus on the ‘how’ so much . . .

. . . In this second book, The Path to Digital Maturity, we want to help the reader find their place on this path and to recognize that by finding their place they can then actually have a level of focus that can be distributed in terms of resources and quite honestly their investment in into technology can be appropriately placed . . .

. . . We’re hoping the readers of the second book are not only going to pick up some tips and tricks of how to do this well, but also understand where to focus.”

What is the overarching theme of Delivering the Digital Restaurant: The Path to Digital Maturity?

Data.

The theme of data definitely goes through the entirety of the book. It really is a reflection of how a restaurant captures data, how it utilizes that data, and then how it turns that data into something which is more guest centric. In the sixth chapter we focus on creating an enhanced experience that can’t be matched through any non digital channel . . .

. . . it’s about helping restaurants realize that they do have a lot of data today, even without any of the the fancy tools out there. There’s still a lot of data that you can utilize.
